Anderson County YR Organizational Meeting

The Anderson County Young Republicans will hold their first meeting Thursday, October 1^st at Main Street Deli located at 305 S. Main Street. The organizational meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner being served at a cost of $10 per person. The guest speaker will be State Representative Michael Thompson who represents District 9 in Anderson.

The purpose of this group is to support the principles, objectives and platform of the Republican Party and to work to elect Republican candidates. To become a member you must be between the ages of 18 – 40. Associate memberships are also available to anyone outside this age group. Single membership dues are $10 per person or $15 per couple for one year . Associate dues are $15 per person.

Young Republicans Offer Support To SC Congressman Joe Wilson

Columbia, SC, 15 Sept 2009 – The South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans (SCFYR) announced their support for Congressman, Joe Wilson, whose “You lie.” comment during President Obama’s speech on health care reform garnered him criticism from both sides of the aisle. “Congressman Wilson’s comment was a visceral eruption of emotion that truly exemplifies the feelings of Americans all across the country who are outraged at a president and congress who are drunk with power and driving us to the brink of disaster,” said SCFYR Chairman, Britton Pruett. “Congressman Wilson’s courage is an inspiration to Young Republicans and I’m sure our members will help reelect him in 2010.”

Man of the Year

Former South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans Chairman, Patrick Haddon was awarded the Young Republican National Federation’s highest award, “Man of the Year” at its biennial convention and awards gala. Patrick’s enthusiasm and dedication to the young people of South Carolina led to his tireless efforts to reorganize South Carolina with the National Young Republican organization. In only two years, Patrick stoked the fire that founded 10 Young Republican organizations throughout the state, which caught the attention and respect of national Young Republican leadership. “We are so proud of Patrick,” said current Chairman, Britton Pruett “it was such an exciting moment to share in one of South Carolina’s own—one of our own—being recognized on a notional stage.”

New Young Republican Chairman Comments on Sanford Announcement

Columbia, SC, 24 June 2009 – South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans Chairman, Britton Pruett made the following comment today: “My prayers are with the Sanfords, and I am encouraged that their intention is to work toward repairing the marriage. Though Governor Sanford is a public figure, I hope the media will respect the privacy of the rest of the Sanford family during this trying time.”

South Carolina Young Republicans Start Anew

Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans held their biennial Convention electing new officers to the executive committee.

The newly elected Executive Committee is now chaired by former South Carolina Young Republican Pee Dee Regional Vice Chairwoman, Britton Pruett. She assumed the Chairmanship from Patrick Haddon by acclimation. Additionally, Mr. Haddon is also the newly elected Greenville County Republican Party Chairman and First Vice Chair of the SCGOP.

Upstate Young Republican Paul Howell, a staffer with U.S. Congressman Bob Inglis will continue to fill the position of Vice Chairman.

Lexington Young Republican and candidate for Southern Director of the National Federation of Young Republicans, Joshua Gross was elected to the position of South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans National Committeeman.

Grand Strand Young Republicans Heather Ammons, Robin Quinn and J. Matthew Wills complete the Executive Committee. The new South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans National Committeewoman, Heather Ammons, who also holds the positions of: Chief of Staff for State Representative Alan Clemmons, Chairwoman of the Grand Strand Young Republicans, and Horry County Republican Party State Executive Committeeperson was elected. New State Treasurer Robin Quinn and new State Secretary J. Matthew Wills are both members of the Grand Strand Young Republican Executive Board.

Distinguished guests speaking to the convention delegates were as follows: South Carolina Republican Party Chairwoman Karen Floyd, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster; gubernatorial candidates U.S. Congressman Gresham Barrett, State Senator Larry Grooms and State Representative Nikki Haley were all present; candidates for Lt. Governor Colonel Bill Connor and Florence County Councilman Ken Ard also addressed the convention delegates.

Three new SCFYR Clubs were chartered bringing the club number within the state organization to ten. These newly chartered clubs are Oconee/Pickens, Southern Carolina and Tri-County which include, York, Lancaster and Chester counties.
